What is our job down here?  I’m glad you asked.  As the ministry has developed down here so have our roles and responsibilities.  One role that Carrie and I share is that of one-on-one disciplers.
A least once a week we set aside a block of time to pour into the lives of the FYMs.  In a group this size it can be hard for people to be themselves and be vulnerable.  Hanging out with them one-on-one gives them an opportunity to have someone they can be real with about life, ministry, struggles, etc.  One-on-ones can take place in the park, out to eat, or on our roof. We are building relationships with the FYM’s and helping them in their walk with Christ.

Carrie has four other set roles down here.  One of her roles is as the Family Meal Coordinator.  Four times a week we have
meals together, all 13 of us.  Carrie is in charge of planning the meals, buying the groceries, and cooking.  She is able delegate some of these tasks.  Another role she has is Family Night Coordinator.  Every Friday night we have a fun activity.  Carrie is in charge of planning and delegating responsibilities for that night.  Creativity is a must for the person in charge of this, and Carrie is perfect for the job.  Another one of her roles is House Upkeep.  It is her job to make sure that all three houses are being kept up and taken care of.  As far as specific job descriptions go, her last one is Base Photographer.  She is in charge of taking pictures for the base.

Along with being a one-on-one discipler I have three other specific roles.  One is the Debrief Coordinator.  Every morning we have a time of praise and worship.  After that time we share, with the group, what God is doing in our life and what he has been teaching us.  This is also a time to receive prayer from the group and to encourage each other in the Lord.  Another responsibility of mine is that of Weekend Ministry Coordinator.  Every Saturday afternoon we come together as a group and ask God how He wants to use us that afternoon.  It may be an outreach at the park, a

Bible
School for the kid in our neighborhood, or it may be an afternoon of praying and intercession for the city.  The point is to be sensitive to the Spirit’s voice and to do His will and not our own.  My last official role is simple.  I am in charge of our house’s rent, utilities, maintenance, etc.

Most of these roles are in place to serve and to make the ministries of the FYM’s possible.  We are enabling them to do ministry.  Aside from that we, as a base staff, feel it is important to model ministry for the students.  Carrie and I are in the process of discovering our specific ministries.  Carrie is gaining a heart for the little girls that live in our neighborhood.  She would like to have a time each week where she teaches them to bake and then teaches them a Bible lesson.  We are excited and optimistic about this opportunity.  Another thing on Carrie’s heart is photography.  How she would use it for ministry is something we are still trying to figure out.  Pray for discernment in that area.

I am building relationships with kids and teenagers that play basketball near our house.
My hope is that our relationships grow and I will be able to share Christ with them.
I am also building a relationship with a guy about my age.
  His name is Gonky.
Pray that our relationship would grow and that Christ would shine through me.
Join us in prayer for all these areas of ministry.
